A skincare discovery with Tropic

A skincare discovery with Tropic: Image 1

Tropic Skincare was founded by Apprentice contestant Susie Ma, whose inspiration for the brand came from her medicinal chemist grandmother and her upbringing in tropical North Queensland, Australia. Now, the award-winning range offers more than 150 products including skincare, hair care, body care and make-up. Running throughout everything it does is the aim to help create a healthier, grenner, and more empowered world. I'd heard much about the products, so I was eager to snap up the offer to test the Skincare Discovery Kit.

The Skincare Discovery Kit (£28) includes travel-size versions of the brand's essentials, and you have the choice of scented, or unscented if your skin is particularly sensitive:

  • Smoothing Cleanser
  • Bamboo face cloth
  • Vitamin Toner
  • Skin Feast
  • Rainforest Dew
The Smoothing Cleanser boasts a luxurious cream texture, which claims to effortlessly melt away make-up and impurities. To be honest, I never use this type of cleanser as I feel they often give a false impression of cleanliness, as I dry my face and find I've left behind a ton of foudation. I'm a sceptical type so fully expected the same to happen here, but not so. My skin felt clean, and was clean! I think one of the reasons is the realistic instructions. It asks you to first apply to dry skin before removing with the super-soft bamboo face cloth and then the key is to apply another smidge afterwards to really get rid any more stubborn make-up. Plus, I was mightily impressed at how it removed my waterproof mascara with complete ease. I'd definitely buy this cleanser, and I'm in love with the cloth!

Next, spritz on the Vitamin Toner - pore-refiing mist. Infused with hydrating aloe vera and cucumber juices, it provides ultimate cooling and can also be used on-the-go. It's nice to just spritz and leave it to soak in before moisturising, so I use it as a little excuse to chill for a couple of minutes while it does it's work! The vitamins B3, B5 and C help to even skin tone, as well as refine pores. What's more, the beauty mineral MSM supports healthy skin cell renewal.

Your moisturising step is the aptly named Skin Feast. It's packed with no less than 20 skin-loving plant, fruit and flower extracts, so it's one hard-working hero. It has a nice smooth texture, that's not too thick for oily skin like mine, and absorbs beautifully to leave skin with a healthy glow.

With the kit, you also get an oh-so cute 15ml bottle of Rainforest Dew Hydrating Serum. This contains beauty's must-have ingredient - hyalauronic acid in a multi-molecular weight, so it's a great hydrator. Plus, the evergreen fern and matcha tea extracts soothe irritated skin and reduce redness.

This kit is definitely a great way to try Tropic's skincare essentials, as well as being convenient to take on honeymoon if you're already a convert.

I also tested Skin Dream (£42), which comes separate to the kit, but is a must-have if you're looking for an age-defying night cream. I smoothed this on before bed and woke up in the morning to skin that feels soft, supple and looking even. It boasts a skin-plumping formula, which provides intense nourishment and its clinically proven bio-retinol and plant ceremides restrore skin's elasticity while you sleep.
