The beauty benefits of fish oil

The beauty benefits of fish oil: Image 1

Fish oil supplements have recently become favoured amongst the rich and famous for its ability to provide soft, glowing and radiant skin.

To explain more, top Naturopathic Nutritionist, Amy Morris from Water for Health
(www.water-for-health.co.uk), is on hand to explain how your beauty regime could benefit from these supplements.

1. SUPER SKIN
Essential fatty acids found in fish oil are vital to skin health, providing a rich source of moisture and giving it that all important 'glow'.

Fish oil can be also considered as a potential treatment for, and as a preventative measure against, skin ageing. UV rays from the sun can cause a chemical change within the skin and the creation of MMP chemicals which result in structural damage and wrinkles. Research Journal of Lipid Research (2005) demonstrates that supplementation of fish oil actually reduces the number of MMP's in UV-exposed skin, therefore combating the signs of ageing. In addition, Omega-3s support a healthy skin inflammatory response which can help to achieve clear skin, moisturised from the inside out.

2. HEALTHY HAIR
Omega-3 has been widely recognised for its ability to combat dry and brittle hair, as well as helping to stop hair loss, and eliminate a dry and flaky scalp. In addition, the benefits of Omega-3 essential fatty acids include adding lustre, sheen and elasticity to your hair as both DHA and EPA (two specific types of fatty acids found within Omega 3) are vital for the nourishment of hair follicles. Omega-3 also can help restart hair growth, help hair grow quicker and stronger and even prevent or reverse hair loss.

3. STRONGER NAILS
Your nails provide an external sign of your inner health, with weak, brittle nails often signalling nutritional deficiencies within the body. Adequate amounts of Omega 3 in your diet can help to lubricate and moisturise your nails and prevent nail disorders. Omega-3 fatty acids can also help reduce inflammation within your nail bed helping your nails to grow, and look better.

4. FIGHT FAT
Omega 3 helps your body respond better to Leptin, a hormone which tells your brain to suppress your appetite while increasing your metabolism. Leptin also causes your body to burn fat for energy, however if your body doesn't respond to Leptin correctly then the reverse happens, resulting in you feeling hungrier and storing more fat.

5. ELIMINATING ECZEMA AND OTHER SKIN CONDITIONS
Essential fatty acids, such as Omega 3 can help with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. If you suffer with either skin condition, there are changes that you can make to your diet, such as including nuts and seeds and oily fish which contains two specific omega-3s called EPA and DHA, which are generally not found in other foods and are thought to be important for the skin. To ensure you're getting adequate amounts of EPA and DHA, I strongly recommend you take a high quality fish oil supplement like UnoCardio 1000 (£35.75 www.water-for-health.co.uk/uno-cardio-1000.html), which offers the highest concentrations of EPA and DHA, and has been independently named as the highest quality fish oil supplement on the market since 2015.
