Your Kent Wedding - January/February 2022 (Issue 100)

WIN! £1,500 worth of diamonds! Your big days: It’s what we live for. Don’t miss our centenary gathering of real weddings from page 38. Diversity AND Disney – yep, that’s my shoot bucket list ticked off! Your Kent Wedding is 100 and doesn’t it look great for it’s age? That’s right, about to enter our 18th year of publishing, we’re celebrating our 100th issue! I’ve been the editor of this wonderful title since issue 80 and feel incredibly proud to have been part of its history. The first issue hit the shelves in 2005 with the iconic Kentish landmark, Leeds Castle on the cover and boy have things changed since then! I managed to find a copy in the archives and dusted it off to find that fashions had more in common with the 1990s than they do the 2020s. Designs were all about taffeta, boned bodices and bags of embellishment. Words I hardly hear these days in relation to wedding dresses. What’s more, it was rare indeed to see a groom not sporting a cravat. However, some things don’t change. Editor Demelza, was explaining to couples that it’s a good idea to select wedding blooms in season at the time of your big day. She said, “In their natural season, flowers are physically stronger (and therefore longer-lasting), their scent is more potent, and their abundance will ensure they don’t cost the earth.” Sound advice and true as it ever was. Themed weddings were as big 17 years ago too. On the news pages, we reported that a couple who tied the knot at The Hop Farm were keen ghost hunters and pulled up to the venue in a dray decorated in witches and ghosts, accompanied by two skeletons and a driver dressed as the grim reaper. So, although personality-filled weddings are huge today, they certainly weren’t something the early noughties couple was afraid of. Plus, Allington Castle featured in our venues focus in issue one, and it makes an appearance here again in issue 100 as the location for our fantastic Disney Fairy Tale Collection shoot. Your Kent Wedding has been bringing local wedding content to lovely nearlyweds for the best part of two decades, becoming a much valued go-to source of inspiration and advice for many tying the knot in this gorgeous county. We exist to champion the local and very much hope that we can continue to do so for many moons to come. We’d never have reached this ripe old age (still looking so good) without our lovely readers and the county’s amazing suppliers who’ve supported us all these years. A huge thank you to you all. Here’s to the next 100 issues! And as ever, keeeep planning!
