CHELSEA PRIOR, CHELSEA BUNS CAKE DESIGN www.chelseabuns.co.uk Chelsea specialises in luxurious, contemporary wedding cake design and has a passion for creating the most beautiful, sugar flowers. She takes her inspiration from all aspects of her couples’ love story and wedding plans to design a truly bespoke edible centrepiece, which fits seamlessly into the wedding and creates a stunning focal point. TREND PREDICTIONS Chelsea says: “With restrictions on and changes to weddings over the past 12 months, there’ll be a bigger focus on intimate occasions. However, this doesn’t mean they won’t pull out all the stops for their perfect day. Tall, elegant bakes will be huge in 2021, creating the impression of a large cake without the corresponding portion numbers. This is something I’ve done for years and they create a beautiful silhouette. Painted cakes will also be popular. Hand-painted florals, mixed with beautiful sugar flowers is one of my all-time favourite looks and I have lots of designs coming up this year that incorporate these elements.“ CHELSEA’S TOP TIP “Your big-day bake is an edible piece of art so consider where and how it will feature in the set up. It’ll probably be the most expensive one you’ll ever buy, why would you want it to be hidden away in dark corner? It’s there to be enjoyed by all, so go all out and have a table fully styled or simply add candles and decorative elements to enhance the setup.“ YVONNE TURNER, THE CAKE PLACE www.thecakeplaceashford.com Yvonne has been baking and decorating wedding cakes for many years. With a passion for bringing her couples’ ideas and dreams to life she loves nothing more than seeing their smiles at the end result. The Cake Place, a destination to create, opened in 2018 offering workshops and classes developed for all abilities. Yvonne and her team pride themselves on being friendly and helpful, fully equipped to create the cake of your dreams. TREND PREDICTIONS Yvonne says: “Following the impact of Covid-19 over the past year, I expect weddings in 2021 to lean towards the simple, small and elegant, with beautiful wedding cakes to match. Personally, my dream cake would be the ever-popular semi-naked bake, decorated in fondant roses and freesias.” YVONNE’S TOP TIP “Never lose sight of the fact that your big day is all about the two of you, so as with every other element of the wedding, your cake design should be devoted to your personal vision. It should be whatever you’d like it to be.” www.pete rmorganphotography.co.uk https rebeccacarpenterphotography.com CAKES 67
