March/April 2021

I don’t know about you, but I can hardly believe that this madness has been going on for a year now. It’s mindboggling to think of how different life was back when Covid was just the stuff of movie plots. Using the word “Zoom” in every other sentence, working in one’s pyjamas, and deciding whether to turn to the black market for toilet rolls are all things that we never imagined would become a reality. But in looking back over these surreal times I’ve also been reflecting on the good. Like most of you, I’ve celebrated a lockdown birthday – yep, I’ve turned 40 since I last spoke to you! I’ll admit to feeling disappointed that my planned celebrations couldn’t go ahead, but what meant even more was the outpouring of love and thoughtfulness from friends and family.

So, enough about me. What about you? How’s your checklist coming along? With spring ahead of us, we’re getting excited about al fresco “I dos,” pastel hues and beautiful blooms. As are our county’s suppliers who, determined not to have their creativity stifled by the pandemic, have been hard at work (safely and when permitted) putting together no less than six styled shoots for you this issue. We’ve got everything from an afternoon tea in a castle to boho vows in the woods.

What’s more if you’re newly engaged, catering should be at the top of the list along with the venue, so don’t miss our annual wedding food and drink feature over on page 61. There’s plenty more fabulousness on every page, so I’ll delay you no longer.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

The Barnyard

Surrounded by 150 acres of stunning landscape in the heart of the Kentish countryside, you’ll find The BarnYard. Home to a beautiful barn conversion and a luxurious permanent grand marquee with a capacity of 300, it’s both tranquil and charming in equal measure.

The beautiful lawn is a wonderful location for a glass of bubbly following the ceremony. There are also some terrific photo opportunities on the romantic wooden bridge, which is built over a cobble garden and set among some stunning landscaping, with a view of the orchards, woodland and rolling fields beyond.

The venue offers a fine-dining experience, with a menu created from fresh and locally sourced ingredients for traditional threecourse wedding breakfasts through to barbecues and hog roasts.

You have a choice of two wonderful outside areas to say “I do.” The Topiary Garden Gazebo is surrounded by the beautiful gardens and can play host to 200 loved ones, and the Orchard Garden Gazebo, with space for 100 of your nearest and dearest, can be found among the orchards and natural woodland. Both of these spaces are backed up by an indoor area if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

The venue also offers twilight ceremonies, which are held in the newly converted Apple Barn, with the option to use a gazebo for an outdoor ceremony in the pretty courtyard. Vows are at 5.30pm followed by the evening celebrations.

Rustic bliss with Kent wedding stationer, Moments That Unite

We asked Jess Harrison of Moments That Unite how to tie wedding stationery in to a rustic-themed barn wedding. Here's what she had to say... "The two best ways to tie your stationery to your theme are by carefully selecting the card used and the details of the design. Card. We recommend opting for a card with a natural, rustic feel such as a brown Kraft card. This has a rustic feel right out of the box and is often 100 per cent recycled too. Colours. Bridal tanning tips and advice from luxury tanning brand, That'so

Everyone wants to look their best on their wedding day and for brides in particular, this is the day you want to look and feel the best version of yourself – your hair, skin and full wedding outfit looking perfect. Tanning can be a scary thing for brides running up to the big day, where you can feel unsure what tan to apply and how to apply it so that it looks flawless and is in no way patchy. It's easy to be put off in the fear it'll rub off onto the wedding dress, however, when prepped and applied correctly, a self-tan can look incredible, giving you a gorgeous sun-kissed glow for your big day.
