July/August 2021

Can you believe we’re now nearing the end of the summer already? Sure, I've enjoyed the longer days, (occasional) sunny conditions and barbecues with friends, but above all I've been delighted by the triumphant return of weddings. And boy, have you all waited long enough! I can’t wait to feature plenty of real weddings in the coming issues and see how your plans have come to life. We’ve all developed a deeper appreciation for the finer things in life over the past 18 months, love being chief among them, and to see it taking centre stage once more is something I’m thrilled about. So, grab your loved ones, hug them as tight as possible and party like it’s 1999! And, when you’ve done that, don’t forget to head over to www.yourkent.wedding/get-involved-real-wedding and tell us all about it, so we can spread the joy.

If there’s one thing I do know, it’s that as giddy as you are at the prospect of finally going ahead with your well-deserved dream day, your suppliers will be every bit as cock-a-hoop to be getting back to what they love. They can’t hide their lights under a bushel for long, so as usual; this issue is about showcasing what they do best. I’ve rounded up my highlights for you across these two pages, so dive in to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

The Barnyard

Surrounded by 150 acres of stunning landscape in the heart of the Kentish countryside, you’ll find The BarnYard. Home to a beautiful barn conversion and a luxurious permanent grand marquee with a capacity of 300, it’s both tranquil and charming in equal measure.

The beautiful lawn is a wonderful location for a glass of bubbly following the ceremony. There are also some terrific photo opportunities on the romantic wooden bridge. Built over a cobble garden it’s set among some stunning landscaping, with a view of the orchards, woodland and rolling fields beyond.

The venue offers a fine-dining experience with a menu created from fresh and locally sourced ingredients for traditional three-course wedding breakfasts through to barbecues and hog roasts.

You have a choice of two wonderful outside areas to say “I do.” The Topiary Garden Gazebo is surrounded by the beautiful gardens and can play host to 200 loved ones, and the Orchard Garden Gazebo, with space for 100 of your nearest and dearest, can be found among the orchards and natural woodland. Both of these spaces are backed up by an indoor area if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

The venue also offers twilight ceremonies, which are held in the newly converted Apple Barn, with the option to use a gazebo for an outdoor ceremony in the pretty courtyard. Vows are at 5.30pm followed by the evening celebrations.

If you're looking for something local to raise a toast with at your wedding, it might interest you to know that Mereworth Wines' bases its choice of vineyard plantings on compatibility with the climate, soil and topography; and that all of these factors lend themselves perfectly to the very three grape varieties used to make exceptional English Sparkling Wine. Chardonnay vines account for over half of the vineyard and you'll be able to enjoy their fruits in the form of Mereworth's White From White.
