January/February 2021

As we wave ta-ta and good riddance to 2020, I hope you all had the chance to raise a glass to 2021 with your loved ones, feeling the warmth of hope. While we still need to be careful to keep each other safe, I think there’s reason to look forward to the future. To all of you who’ve seen their wedding plans changing by the second of late, I’d like to virtually shake all of you by the hand. Don’t give in! Here at Your Kent Wedding, we don’t plan to shift in our resolutely optimistic celebration of everything wedding and we love taking you along for the ride. So, let’s support our local wedding industry, so that we can all come out the other side, happy that love won. Come on 2021, you got this!

Let’s start the year with a bang. We’ve got our usual fabulous blend of real weddings (from page 36) and stunning styled shoots (from page 59) that you absolutely won’t want to miss. Plus, eyes on the warmer months already, we’ve consulted the county’s experts on planning al fresco wedding days (page 69). If there’s one thing that never fails to cheer me up, it’s the wealth of stunning dresses that our lovely fashion editor Claire gathers together for her roundups, so be sure to check out the latest from page 91.

Happy new year and keeeeep planning!

Hythe Imperial Hotel

The stunning four-star Hythe Imperial is a beautiful classically styled hotel situated on Kent’s seafront, with the beach a mere stone’s throw away. It boasts uninterrupted panoramic vistas across the English Channel from the rear, whilst the front looks out over the hotel’s perfectly manicured gardens. As a point of interest, it also boasts the tallest chandelier in Europe, created by Royal Warrant holders Wilkinson and Co. It’s a stunning confection of 25,000 individual crystals. How’s that for some impressive weddingday opulence?

When it comes to your vows, you’ve a whole host of options from the gorgeous gazebo (130 guests), located amongst the spectacular gardens, to the glamorous Imperial Ballroom, a spectacular space that can also host 130 guests for your reception. There are spaces too, ideal for more intimate “I dos,” in the shape of the Coast Restaurant (30 guests), which offers a majestic carpeted entrance, and the Elizabeth Room (100 guests), offering a lovely light blank canvas.

Alternatively, if you’re after something a little bit different, the Afternoon Tea Parlour is the perfect setting, with a touch of the traditional. It can host 50 for your ceremony. Plus, you’ll love The Moët and Chandon Champagne Bar, the hotel’s pièce de résistance! Think glitz and glamour with a laid-back attitude. It can hold 40 loved ones at your ceremony.

The venue is currently taking appointments for socially distanced show arounds, so don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Inspired by dry-January, event planner Liz Taylor has top tips for an alcohol-free wedding

January is traditionally a time for good intentions and new, healthier beginnings. Be that swapping out meat for plant-based Veganuary, dusting off the running shoes, or cutting out alcohol for Dry January. With more than 20 per cent of the UK population now describing themselves as teetotal, the idea of a dry wedding may be more popular than you think. And what could be better than waking up hangover free on your first day as a married couple? For others, living and marrying without alcohol has a religious or cultural meaning. So, if you're planning a wedding in January, or indeed any month of the year, it makes sense to give guests some alcohol-free options.
