July/August 2020

As I write from lockdown, I try to turn my mind to all things positive, as thankfully, we’re beginning to see a glimmer of light at the end of that tunnel. One thing I’ll take from this is just how proud I am to be part of the Kent wedding industry. I’ve been incredibly heartened to witness some wonderful acts of love and support from our local suppliers, who’ve been working tirelessly, in whatever way they can, to help couples forced to cancel their dream days, as well as the wider community. Everyone has well and truly stuck together and remained positive throughout an impossible time, and that’s something I’ll remember with enormous gratitude. You guys are my heroes and I applaud you.

We’re here to offer some light relief and advice wherever you’re at on your journey to W-day, even if you’ve been forced backwards a few paces. Nothing warms the heart like a love story, and we have four of our readers’ to share starting on page 30. Plus, we’re really spoiling you this issue with no less than five stunning styled shoots. We have everything from coast to country, rustic to glam, vintage to contemporary, so dive right in.

What’s more, if you’re planning a day to remember turn to page 79 for our A-Z of entertainment, and page 67 to find out how to style any venue to full effect. Finally, if your skin’s feeling the effects of lockdown, you won’t want to miss my interview with skincare expert and social media icon Caroline Hirons, who’ll have you wedding-ready in no time (page 112).

Take care out there.

Penshurst Place and Gardens

Set in an estate of 2,500 acres, the 14th-century house and formal gardens are steeped in natural splendour and historical architecture. With sandstone walls and an impressive sweeping driveway on the private north-side entrance, it’s been described as the perfect combination of an inspiring castle combined with an intimate country manor house.

The 14th-century, Grade I listed, gardens are considered to be amongst the most beautiful in England. Originally laid out in 1346, their 11 acres have been kept true to their Elizabethan design.

Colourfully surrounding the house with a breathtaking blend of roses, tulips, blossoms and herbaceous plants, they make Penshurst Place an enchanting photographic backdrop.

The great news is that you can say “I do” surrounded by these beautiful gardens. The Inner Courtyard, which sits beneath the Kings Tower, adjacent to the Baron’s Hall, is fully licensed for 120. You also have the opportunity for celebrant-led ceremonies amongst the formal gardens and parklands, which is new for 2020. Ideal if you’re looking for a countryside setting amongst the ancient trees and historical gardens.

Indoor options are, of course, available in the form of the Baron’s Hall, Sunderland Room and Buttery, which can play host to guest numbers of 30 to 200. It’s also possible to host your dream day in a marquee in the Inner Courtyard or South Lawn for up to 300.
