Despite being a self-confessed winterholic, I can’t say I’m sorry to see the back of the dark nights and am very much looking forward to the change in seasons. When I think of spring, what immediately comes to mind is new life. There’s just something in the air, with trees coming to life and wonderful spring flowers blossoming. So if you have a gorgeous spring wedding planned, excellent choice, I say!
As the new season brings with it a shift in wedding trends, I’m excited to see what this year brings. I’m already daydreaming about contemporary rustic hues with a dash of vintage chintz – dusty blue, soft green, lemon yellow and even this year’s Pantone colour, Living Coral, all of which have been the inspiration behind my picks for these pages. Fresh, clean floral fun – just glorious!
Just picture yourself, a beautiful warm day, relaxing on the patio of one of Kent’s stunning stately homes, sipping bubbly and mingling with your nearest and dearest – lord and lady of the manor for a day. If that sounds right up your street, turn to page 33, where we give you our rundown of the loveliest manor house and stately home venues around.
Like the seasons, something that never stops evolving is cake! Well and truly gone are the days of Victoria sponge, fruit or bust. This issue, the supertalented bakers of Kent have showcased the year’s top trends in a feature that looks good enough to eat. So follow the cake crumbs over to page 75.
Don’t forget if you’d like to see your own “I dos” in the magazine, just drop me a line at kellya@kdmediapublishing.com
Happy planning, one and all! | |

Goodnestone Park
A Queen Anne gem, this extensively refurbished house was opened for private hire in 2016. With 12 sumptuous en suite bedrooms, six glorious reception rooms and a state-of-the-art kitchen, this quintessentially English property is bound to impress. The grand hall, complete with grand piano and sweeping staircase, is perfect for making a dramatic entrance.
Built in 1704, Goodnestone is a fine example of its period and has been in the same family’s ownership ever since. The original brick and stonework has been restored, and basking in the glow of floodlights, it provides a magnificent backdrop to celebrations on the extensive lawn.
The venue’s 15 acres of gardens are a particular highlight, with the delightful walled garden being a favourite for drinks receptions on the way back from the 12th-century church of The Holy Cross, just a few hundred yards away.
Seating 36 for the ceremony, The Round Room is perfect for an intimate wedding, with its hand-painted panels, romantic history and views over the garden. The Coach House, a large and airy orangery-style room with exposed brick floors, potted palms and a grand piano, seats 150.
The ground floor of the house is available for smaller wedding receptions of up to 40 nearest and dearest. Alternatively, there’s The Old Dairy, which can accommodate 100 for a seated meal. Equipped with its own bar and kitchen, it’s a stunning conversion of an old farm building.
Next to The Old Dairy, The Courtyard is a walled area, which can be converted into a space seating 140 loved ones with a marquee. A marquee can also be hired and pitched on the lawn beside the house, in the Lime Walk or in The Walled Garden, providing space for 150 seated.
