March/April 2021

I don’t know about you, but I can hardly believe that this madness has been going on for a year now. It’s mindboggling to think of how different life was back when Covid was just the stuff of movie plots. Using the word “Zoom” in every other sentence, working in one’s pyjamas, and deciding whether to turn to the black market for toilet rolls are all things that we never imagined would become a reality. But in looking back over these surreal times I’ve also been reflecting on the good. Like most of you, I’ve celebrated a lockdown birthday – yep, I’ve turned 40 since I last spoke to you! I’ll admit to feeling disappointed that my planned celebrations couldn’t go ahead, but what meant even more was the outpouring of love and thoughtfulness from friends and family.

So, enough about me. What about you? How’s your checklist coming along? With spring ahead of us, we’re getting excited about al fresco “I dos,” pastel hues and beautiful blooms. As are our county’s suppliers who, determined not to have their creativity stifled by the pandemic, have been hard at work (safely and when permitted) putting together no less than six styled shoots for you this issue. We’ve got everything from an afternoon tea in a castle to boho vows in the woods.

What’s more if you’re newly engaged, catering should be at the top of the list along with the venue, so don’t miss our annual wedding food and drink feature over on page 61. There’s plenty more fabulousness on every page, so I’ll delay you no longer.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Weddings at Quex Park

Weddings & Events at Quex Park is a family-run business situated in the coastal town of Birchington. Weddings at Quex has been in operation for more than seven years and has built up an enviable reputation thanks to its idyllic location, exceptional service and outstanding freshly-prepared food made by the onsite head chef.

No country house would be complete without extensive grounds and Quex is no exception with 15 acres of beautiful, informal gardens featuring lawns, herbaceous borders, fountains, a croquet lawn and a Victorian walled garden. The photographic opportunities are practically endless.

Both indoor and open-air options are available for your “I dos.” The Victorian-style gazebo is situated among the stunning gardens and provides an idyllic spot for a dream summer ceremony. It can host 120 of your loved ones. The Grand Hall, with capacity for 70 guests, can be found inside Quex House, which boasts oak-panelled rooms and a sweeping staircase for a grand bridal entrance.

Celebrations take place in the Banqueting Suite, which can accommodate 120 for a sit-down meal and 200 for the evening revelries. This light and airy space provides the perfect neutral backdrop to decorate in whichever theme or palette you wish.

There is a bridal suite inside the historical House, available for use for up to six hours before the ceremony. The venue also offers free food and wine tasting evenings, as well as a number of wedding fairs throughout the year, so there’s plenty of opportunity to pop along for a visit when restrictions are lifted.
