March/April 2022

Who else can’t believe it’s springtime already? It’s such a special time of year and in 2022 we all get to appreciate it so much more given the last two we’ve spent locked up! I’m still coming back down to earth after issue 100 of Your Kent Wedding. It seems strange to be on the other side, but it’s exciting to make a start on the next 100 issues of wedspiration from real weddings and shoots, to expert advice and ideas.

In my own wedding world, bride Melissa has been turning her attention to her best gals and we’ve now got our dresses, if not in our hands then on order. It was a bumpy ride, but thanks to Melissa’s unending patience, we got there. We’re now looking at the even more fun stuff such as accessories, shoes, hair and make-up, which has led myself, my fellow bridesmaids and the bride herself to ponder the matter of just whose job it is to foot the bill for the glam? This in no small part is due to the fact none of us seem able to get the lovely Melissa to take one single penny from us towards it. So, when Fragrance Direct told me they’d teamed up with wedding planer Hannah Rose to discuss just this matter, I was all ears!

Thinking about the glam bill, Fragrance Direct asked Hannah whether it was the nearlyweds’ responsibility to pay for everyone or just themselves? She answered unequivocally, “Definitely everyone. If they’ve asked for people to be part of their day, the majority of the time this will fall to the couple to pay. Otherwise, their loved ones may be put off joining the wedding party. Some bridesmaids and groomsmen might be happy to contribute, but it’s always encouraged that the couple plan this into their budget and offer to pay for the basics such as hair and make-up if they want them to have it done. The cost will vary depending on the hair stylist and make-up artist, but I’d advise to allocate a minimum of £150-£200 per person for anyone who isn’t the bride or groom.” Check out www.fragrancedirect.co.uk/wedding-calculator for a helping hand with budgeting. So, there we have it. We shall immediately cease arguing with the bride and accept her kindness gracefully.

I’ll leave you now to enjoy this issue. Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Beach hut weddings

This classic white beach hut has windows along its side meaning you can be married overlooking the sea, enjoying the breathtaking views of Herne Bay seafront. The interior has been kept light and simple providing the ideal blank canvas to add your own personal touches. Its rustic wooden terrace also offers a fitting platform for a dream seaside wedding.

Situated on the iconic and attractive pier, plenty of outside space is available and offers everything from a vintage carousel and helter skelter to a covered stage for live music and entertainment. With 360-degree sea views surrounding the pier and spectacular sunsets acting as a backdrop to your photos, this venue certainly delivers on the scenic-setting front.

Civil ceremonies take place in the beach hut itself, which has seating capacity for 40 guests. Intimate receptions can be hosted in the hut too, alternatively larger affairs can head over to Herne Bay Pier, which has a capacity of 150 loved ones for the wedding breakfast and 250 for an evening bash.

The venue offers a personal service to all of its couples, and the team love to see you as often as you wish to ensure the lead up to the wedding is as enjoyable as the day itself.

We chatted to Claire Aunger of Kent Professional Makeup and Therapies about wedding planning and achieving your dream look. We're engaged! Now what?

The most important thing is to enjoy it. With regards to make-up and beauty, it's key to find a make-up artist you feel comfortable with and who offers the style of make-up you're after. Check to see if they also offer packages such as the Bride to Be Package that we have. These include facials, manicures, pedicures and so on, to prepare you for your big day.
