Hayley and Scott met through a friend as teenagers. They worked together at the local supermarket, becoming firm friends before their relationship blossomed into something much more.
Fast forward four-and-a-half years, and the couple were on holiday with some friends in Tenerife. Since it was to be their only holiday that year, they'd told their companions they would spend a couple of nights alone. While out for a romantic evening, Scott decided he wanted to capture a photo of Hayley watching the sunset. She remembers: “I was stood there with my back to him, saying 'have you taken it yet? Hurry up!' When I turned around, I saw he'd written 'will you marry me?' in the sand, and he was down on one knee holding a gorgeous ring.”
The date was set for 22nd June, 2018, at The Old Kent Barn. Here the bride takes us for an inside look at the big day…
The Old Kent Barn was the only venue we looked at. It had the ultimate fairytale feel, with its stunning grounds, gorgeous gazebo, pergola, the beautiful barns and attention to detail with glistening fairylights in the ceiling. The team made our wedding so special by making sure the day ran smoothly.
Our four-tier Disney-themed cake was ivory with red ribbon. One tier had a ruffle texture, two were plain and, on the other, written in silver was “and they lived happily ever after.” It was topped with a castle fitted with fairylights and scribed with “Mr and Mrs Holding.”
Our favours were love-heart chocolates on two different cards. Both said: “Welcome to the wedding of Scott & Hayley,” but one was Alice in Wonderland and also said “eat me,” and the other was Beauty and the Beast with “be our guest.”
Our guests were totally wowed by our magician, Chris Harding!
The centrepieces were tall vase arrangements with red and ivory flowers and trailing ivy, placed on a silver mirror that was decorated 42 with red and silver Mickey Mouse gems.
We used our favourite Disney couples as the table names. These were then printed on to cards mounted with red backing and placed on a silver mirror.
I wore a fitted lace dress with a corset back from Together Forever Bridal Boutique in Crayford. I always saw myself going for a princess gown, but I tried on a fitted fishtail and fell in love. I accessorised with a crystal belt and a plain, full-length veil.
The florist made my day special. I left her free to run with my ideas for the bouquet and centrepieces using red and ivory flowers, and I was thrilled with what she made. I loved my bouquet, which had Mickey Mouse crystals hidden inside!
I was filled with excitement on the day, singing and dancing around in the morning, although Scott was very nervous! Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing the love of my life was a huge highlight.
Our wedding was very family-oriented with a few close friends, as we wanted to keep it intimate.
My granddad knows that I'm a huge Disney fan and surprised us by dressing up as Mickey Mouse for the evening reception, having organised it with the venue without our knowledge. It really made us laugh!
Our DJ, Apollo Funk, played our choice of modern music with some of our favourite songs. The dancefloor was always full of people having a great time.
HAYLEY'S TOP TIPS… - Give yourself plenty of time to plan and organise. - Visit as many wedding fairs as you can to gather ideas and meet suppliers. - Do lots of research on each element of the wedding. - Follow your heart. Do what you want, not what anyone else says you should.
