Kent-based wedding cake maker Emma Page is set to start filming a series of painting and sculpting tutorials, which will be added to her website in the coming weeks.
Filming will take place in her fancy new kitchen, and will cover everything you need to practice to become a skilled buttercream artist. Emma will be taking you through her favourite buttercream recipe, which is fantastically smooth and stable, as well as completely delicious. She'll then demonstrate all the techniques she uses to sculpt and paint finishes.
Lessons will include printable templates that you can slip into plastic wallets and use to practice each flower. She'll also show you how to load the buttercream onto your palette knife to create different shapes; how to compose groups of statement and filler flowers; how to work on the side of cake; mixing colours and creating successful colour schemes; piping flower spikes to create movement; and the more advanced way of working with two knives.
Emma will also be sharing the resources that she uses to create her designs. Many of her cakes are based on inspired by textile designs and couture details. What types of compositions translate well onto a cake? How do you bring all the styling elements of a wedding together on a cake? This is where you can find out!
Emma says, "It's very exciting, but also quite nerve-wracking, as I'm not used to being in front of the camera. I'll follow this series with a similar group of videos all about the very new art of sculpting with chocolate cream, which is firmer than buttercream and allows the creation of shapes with more volume."
