Visitors to the Ideal Home Show have voted on their favourite royal wedding cake designs from 38 showstoppers created in celebration of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's forthcoming big day.
The entries from both professional and amateur cake makers are displayed at The Ideal Home Show at Olympia, London, with ideas ranging from a 'whirlwind romance' typhoon-style concoction to the more conventional multi-tiered cake in traditional colours.
The cakes attracted more than 5,000 votes during the opening week of the show, which runs until Easter Monday, 2nd April. Judge Rosie Dummer, better known as Rosie Cake-Diva to her million-plus Facebook fans and watchers of Channel 4's Extreme Cakes, made the final decision from the top three.
She opted for the 'When Harry Met Meghan' creation by Emma Matthews of Happiness Factor Cakes in Luton, Bedfordshire. A multi-tiered masterpiece measuring 30 inches tall, it depicts the film career of the bride-to-be as well as the Prince's military training, iced with cream-coloured flowers, film clapperboards and guardsmen.
The runners-up were 'Regal Romance' by DLux Cakes of Kingston, Surrey and 'A Love Out of Sight' by Julie Anne Cake Design from Banks, Southport. The prize winners all received Smeg kitchen equipment prizes.
Ideal Home Show director Giles Perry said, "This has been a really popular display, everyone's excited about the forthcoming royal wedding and this is a way for so many of our visitors to get in the spirit.
"We have over a ton of cake and icing on display here at Olympia, with something for everyone's tastes! We're also celebrating the couple's spring marriage with a special tea in our Royal Tearooms featuring all the favourite regal treats from the Queen's cucumber sandwiches to the Princes' chocolate biscuit cake."
