Bex the Celebrant has received a highly commended accolade at The Wedding Industry Awards

Orpington-based wedding celebrant, Rebecca McMonagle, professionally known as Bex the Celebrant, has received the highly commended accolade at The Wedding Industry Awards. This is an incredible achievement given she has only been qualified for a year. When Bex's day job as a TV producer slowed down during lockdown 2020, she decided to use the time to develop a project close to her heart and trained as a wedding celebrant to bring a fun, personalised approach to the ceremonies of like-minded couples. She was delighted to have been nominated by one of her many newlyweds and was shortlisted by the judges as a regional nominee.

Planning SOS: The ceremony

We chatted to Celebrant Alex Hilder about planning the perfect wedding ceremony. We're engaged! Now what?

Enjoy that newly engaged bubble. Then, when you start thinking about the planning process, remember to take some with the deep stuff. Spend some time thinking about why it is that you've taken the plunge and decided to get married. Think about what it is about your relationship that makes you want to share it with the world. There's nowhere near the social pressure to get married that there once was, so spend some time understanding your 'why.' From here, the rest will flow easily: how you want to feel, how you want your guests to feel, where you'd like to be, what vibe you want to create, who you want to play a part... So, when you get to the next step of exploring the amazing range of talented suppliers that we have in Kent, it'll make it much simpler to find the ones you really gel with.

Wedding celebrants support High Court case for legal recognition

Six couples are taking their case to the High Court on 7-8 July to take a landmark challenge over the legal recognition of humanist marriages; their case is being supported by humanist celebrants. Siân Jackson a celebrant, based in Neath, Wales commented, "Humanist ceremonies bring meaning, personality and depth to a non-religious ceremony in a way which is just not possible within the construct of a civil ceremony.
