July/August 2022

W-day is imminent! As the County Wedding Magazines editorial crew prepare to see our beloved senior editor Melissa become a Mrs, we can’t help but be niggled by at least a small sense of shock at just how quickly the big day has come around. Something, I’ve no doubt you’re all experiencing too as your own weddings draw closer.

Christmas Day 2020 feels like only yesterday, when my fellow bridesmaid, Olivia, and I bombarded Melissa with WhatsApp messages: “Has he done it yet? Has he done it yet?” We knew the proposal was imminent you see, and were more than just a tad excited! Boy, have we had an adventure together since: the tears of joy at being asked to be bridesmaids (“Are you sure you want me?”), the fun of shopping for the dresses, and the hilarity of the hen dos (yes plural, she deserves it). The past year-and-a-half has seen us grow closer as friends, not just Melissa, Olivia and I – the three amigos; but also with our gorgeous fellow bridesmaid Nolwenn and the groom, dear Dave. Weddings have a habit of doing that don’t they? Of course, they’re a celebration of love between the all-important couple, but more than that, they allow a much wider expression of love for friends, family and even fur-babies! After all, that’s why we’re all here isn’t it? I know it’s why I spend my days writing about your amazing big days and why I never tire of looking at the resulting photographs. To quote a hero of mine, RuPaul: “Everybody say love.”

I hope you enjoy the oodles of inspiration this issue has to offer. We’ve got three breathtaking styled shoots packed with ideas from Kent’s finest wedding suppliers, as well as three incredible real weddings. Plus, there’s plenty of guidance on styling your venue and how to keep your guests entertained dawn to dusk. So, dive in!

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Spotlight on Ashford, Swale and The Weald

The Weald of Kent

The Weald of Kent is a beautifully maintained 18-hole parkland golf course and hotel. Set amongst the rolling Kent countryside, it boasts far-reaching views and lies just a short drive from Maidstone and Ashford as well as the surrounding villages of Sutton Valence, Headcorn, Staplehurst and Tenterden. The recently-decorated wedding suites now boast the addition of luxurious carpets in a neutral hue, together with freshly-painted walls throughout, and are ready to welcome you on your big day. With the immaculately manicured golf course and beautiful lakes as your backdrop, you can also relax and enjoy the exclusive wedding patio for drinks and mingling.

The wedding rooms can host both your ceremony and celebrations. The Lakeside Room has capacity for 100 while in the more intimate Waterside Room there’s space for 50. They’re available separately or joined together to accommodate larger numbers. The venue also offers exclusive hotel booking, a complimentary suite for the wedding night and professional wedding planning from booking to the big day.

The most Instagrammable wedding flowers

The most Instagrammable wedding flowers

Trying to decide between roses and hydrangea for your wedding? Perhaps this latest research from gardening experts AllAboutGardening.com will help! The company analysed hashtag counts of over 100 different types of flowers, on Instagram to establish which flower is the most popular on the social media platform. Roses were revealed as the most Instagrammable flower. To date, there are 79.6million posts using the hashtag 'rose' or 'roses', contributing to its status as the most Instagrammable flower. Roses, when cut, can typically last up to one week but to keep the flower fresh requires additional care tips. The best way to keep roses fresh is to remove all the leaves from the stem, as allowing leaves to be submerged in water can lead to your roses harbouring bacteria and will speed up the process of your roses wilting. Similarly, roses should always be kept in a cool spot with vase water that is regularly changed.
