Tell us about yourself

I’m Mel the owner and director of Your Story Events. Your Story specialises in wedding planning, design and coordination. I am based on the border of London and Kent and work throughout both counties as well as nationwide.

My own wedding was honestly one of the best days of my life and so my aim at Your Story is to achieve the perfect day for my clients too, filled with unforgettable memories to last a lifetime.

I have a decade’s worth of event experience, and am passionate about perfecting the little details that we all know have a big impact on the day. My approach with each client is to collaborate and work together to turn their dream day into a reality.

What can you offer couples planning their wedding day?

I have a real passion for beautiful weddings, creativity, and importantly organisation too! I will ensure no detail is overlooked and that your wedding runs without a hitch, leaving you to relax and enjoy what will be one of the best days of your life.

It’s really important for me that we spend time at the start of the relationship getting to know each other and forming a real connection – and importantly have fun! We’ll meet to talk in depth about your vision and I always make myself available at the end of the phone, whenever you need me.

I offer three different package options. Firstly, the full wedding planning package, which is perfect for people who may be daunted at the prospect of organising an entire wedding celebration or who are perhaps just lacking the time to do so. When choosing this option, I will be with you throughout the planning process and every step of the way.

The partial planning package is for couples that have made a good start but need help in certain areas. For example, you may have your dream venue and caterer, but need help to source additional suppliers such as a florist and entertainment.

Finally, I offer an on-the-day coordination package. If you have your wedding all planned but are in need of a professional to oversee the day itself so that you can relax and simply enjoy, then this option is for you.

I'm not prepared to completely handover the fun of planning to someone else, but could use a hand... How would you respond to this.

Absolutely, my job is to ensure you experience the fun and joy of wedding planning, but I take on all the stress and manage all the ‘boring’ bits for you.

It’s always important to me that we work closely so I can truly help you achieve your vision. If you want to be more hands-on then we could also explore the partial package for your needs, where I can be involved with certain areas. You can have me for exactly the parts you want help with.

Whichever package you went with, I will be there to offer my advice and be with you throughout. My aim is to ensure that you enjoy the process of seeing everything come together for the big day.

What advice would you offer to couples planning their big day while facing ever changing Covid restrictions?

Firstly, I know it’s easy to say, but try not stress too much. Keep calm and consider your options. Speak to your venue and suppliers. Think also about the following: what are the possibilities of reducing the numbers to a micro wedding? What other dates might be an option? Have you considered how to make the day Covid-safe for you and your guests?
