The Ferry House, a much-loved 16th-century venue on the Kent coast, has announced a significant transformation in its future. From April 2026, The Ferry House will evolve into an exclusive hire barn wedding and events venue, reducing its restaurant and bed and breakfast services. However, diners needn’t despair, as the venue will continue to host select pop-up dining experiences, taster evenings and special occasions.

Currently a 2AA Rosette restaurant with rooms and events venue, The Ferry House is set beside the Swale estuary in the hamlet of Harty, on the Isle of Sheppey. The venue’s evolution follows years of dedication and passion from the local Burden family, who have owned and lovingly restored The Ferry House since 2000. The upcoming addition of a second wedding barn, named Spring Barn, set to be completed in April 2026, is at the heart of this transformation. This beautifully constructed barn will elevate the venue’s capacity and ability to host unforgettable weddings and events, marking the start of a new era of quality.

Victoria Burden, co-owner of The Ferry House, shares her excitement for this next chapter: "We’ve always strived to deliver exceptional experiences to both our wedding parties and dining guests. However, as our wedding business has grown, it’s become increasingly challenging to balance frequent, large celebrations with the intimate dining retreat atmosphere we love to create. Rather than compromise on either, we’ve made the exciting decision to put special celebratory experiences at the heart of what we do. We know many of our customers consider us their ‘special place’ and the transformation of the venue doesn't change that. We will still offer pop-up dining and taster evenings, so our loyal diners can enjoy the dishes and hyper-local produce they’ve come to love at The Ferry House, just in a more exclusive and carefully curated way. This step forward ensures we can continue to offer the best of what we do, without compromise.”

The new Spring Barn is set to become a focal point for The Ferry House’s future, welcoming couples and event hosts to experience the perfect blend of heritage, elegance, and modern luxury. It joins the existing Hop Barn, Oak Gazebo and 16th-century restaurant as a fourth beautiful event space.
