Get away with NC Travel

2020 has certainly not been a year any of us would wish to repeat with so many dreams being put on hold. If government guidelines and ongoing changes mean you've scaled down your "I dos" and are now looking for a different way to celebrate with your nearest and dearest until you can all get together for a bigger bash when restrictions are lifted, have you considered just getting away from it all? Why not combine your honeymoon with a post-ceremony celebration? Nikki Curran of Kent's NC Travel says, "There are so many opportunities from a rock-star styled party at the Hard Rock Tenerife; to the more exotic locations of Mexico's beaches or the Caribbean and Indian Ocean; and for something closer to home, a traditional village or vineyard in Cyprus."

Paws for thought – why having a ‘pet-nuptial’ agreement is the ultimate preparation

Couples who have adopted a pet during the pandemic can save themselves the unnecessary heartache of losing shared pets by arranging a 'pet-nuptial' agreement in case – obviously here at County Wedding Magazines HQ we truly hope it's not the case – of future separation with their partner. For custody of furry friends, there is currently no official legally binding measures in place for what happens to pets after a breakup. Legally a pet is seen as an asset, and as with any assets in a divorce, ownership will be decided by the court - however having a prearranged agreement in place, commonly known as a prenuptial agreement, can assist the court to make a decision.

Inspired by dry-January, event planner Liz Taylor has top tips for an alcohol-free wedding

January is traditionally a time for good intentions and new, healthier beginnings. And what could be better than waking up hangover free on your first day as a married couple? For others, living and marrying without alcohol has a religious or cultural meaning. Local shoot - Into the woods

There are few things more beautiful than an ethereal woodland wedding, and this local team of suppliers set about bringing an intimate feel to their creation. Shoot coordinator Janet Wilson of 2 of Harps explains, "Micro weddings are now more in demand than ever before, so for this project we were inspired by a romantic picnic for two in the woods." As the summer drew to a close, and autumn started to breeze in, it was the perfect time to use beautiful lavender as a floral theme and basis of their colour palette. "We cut, dried and prepared each bunch just a few weeks before the day, and it played an important role in tying everything together," Janet says. The rest of the pretty palette was made up of duck egg blue, dusty rose, baby pink, cream, white, rich greens and browns - all drawing on the natural surroundings. The effect was a light and airy atmosphere.

Travel SOS

For many couples not only have their wedding plans been thrown into turmoil thanks to Covid-19, but their honeymoon plans too. We asked local independent travel agent Nicki Curran of NC Travel for her advice. "Your honeymoon is probably the most important holiday you'll plan, and the uncertainties surrounding Covid, changing regulations and cancellations can't be helping the stresses involved with your decision-making. My advice is to find a reputable ABTA and ATOL bonded agent that you can talk to in person."

However, for me the year kicked off in fabulous fashion with being made redundant from my job. Lovely.

Memories to last a lifetime

UK retailer The Perfume Shop reveals sales of home fragrance increased by a whopping 357% month on month following lockdown, as the UK continue to spend more time at home. Not only can fragrance lift your mood at home, but it's also important to consider how fragrances can impact your wedding day. If you have a particular favourite scent, why not have candles or diffusers at the entrance to your wedding venues so that guests can be greeted with a pleasant welcome - and it will evoke memories of your special day for years to come as the sense of smell is closely linked with memory, probably more so than any of our other senses.
